HOW TO FORM A GOOD RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROJECT TOPICS

April 20, 2020. imperial writers

The ability of students to form research hypothesis for undergraduate project topics is questioned by most project supervisors in Nigeria. Undergraduate project topics are becoming more and more dynamic by the day. Lately I have seen most of the hypothesis by most undergraduate project students becoming similar. Research has become so advanced that the manner in which research hypothesis for undergraduate project topics is written has changed.

Research hypothesis for any undergraduate project topics has to be drawn from the gap identified from previous empirical findings from related past undergraduate project topics. If you guys have been following my articles; you will remember that I have talk about literature mapping.

In tertiary institutions today; undergraduate project topics in Nigeria and abroad has developed in such a way that your project supervisors tries to make sure that you really understand your research project topics that is why they require you doing a kind of literature mapping on the undergraduate project topics given to you. I will write in my next article about literature mapping for undergraduate project topics.

The undergraduate project supervisors demand for literature mapping to make sure you are able to identify the gap in any undergraduate project topics given to you. When I say “gap in literature” I mean to say what previous research works were not able to cover that is what we call the gap in literature.

We all know that hypothesis is a guess statement where the null hypothesis is saying exactly the opposite of what your wish or tend to achieve during your research project work. The alternate hypothesis is exactly what you’re really what your work to achieve.

Before forming your research hypothesis for undergraduate project topics here are the few things you should have in mind:

  1. understand the number of variables in your undergraduate project topics
  2. What do you really want to achieve during your research project work
  3. then lastly structure your research objectives in a way to ascertain your hypothesis

When you understand these three points, it will help your form the hypothesis for undergraduate project topics in such a way that there will be a link between the variables. This is because a hypothesis that is form without linking the dependent variables and the independent variables will lead to confusion in the methodology to be used during your research project work.

Now let me explain in details how to for research hypothesis for undergraduate project topics. I have always emphasized on my previous articles that a good researcher always starts his/her undergraduate project writing from the chapter two. Reason being that you can only identify the gap in any undergraduate project topics given to you when you are able to write an outstanding literature review.

Of course we know that a good literature review is usually divided into three:

  1. Conceptual frame work
  2. Theoretical frame work and
  3. The empirical reviews

Now listen carefully; you do not draw your research hypothesis from the either conceptual frame work nor your theoretical frame work. The research hypothesis for any undergraduate project topics is usually drawn from the empirical review. When you are handling the empirical review for your undergraduate project topics try as much as possible to gather a lot of literature (Previous) works by other authors on undergraduate project topics that are closely related to your own topic.        Try to focus and identify what these studies failed to identify; then drawn your hypothesis from there. When you finally draw your hypothesis from there, model the statement of the problem from the gap identified; after which your research aim and objectives will follow suit.
